The Ministry of Disinformation

My previous post "misillusioned". A contender in the ring with "misunderestimated" perhaps.

The tagline should have read "I'm late, sheeps head anyone?", and then "Always have been, always will be" referring to the "I'm late" component of the phrase.

Trouble is, I named my picture sheep in the html metafiling, and this transposed to the copy. The result, as you can see reads "Sheep, Always have been, always will be...." Not what I wanted to convey....D'OH!!

I'm late, sheeps head anyone?

Sheep
Always have been, always will be.

At 22: "Do you think that actually getting a degree would be worthwile? Yeah, wow! So do I. Just think of the benefits and opportunities that would rise before me if I did so. I mean, I'm 22...I should be graduating already, and yet somehow, I'm only just thinking of starting.....".....Shit....that was a bit late dude....

At 26 "Do you think that buying some property would be a good idea? Yeah, I think that it would too. I mean, I'm poor otherwise, and the prices are actually reasonable right now. I could buy my flat from my landlord for a hundred grand. Of course, I won't do that, but keep paying rent and watch the value of the property rise to nearly 200 grand over the next 3 years......D'OH!!! F#)(*KKI#@*@ D'OH!!!!

At 2fooking8forgodsake!: "Hey, wouldn't it be cool if I could at least even DRIVE a frckin car???!!!" Yeah....that'd be cool. Like I'm 7teen again!!!

Ah well, like I said ..... I'm late...... I feel like a mewling bloody kitten some days.....YOu mean THAT'S what I supposed to do??!!!

I do have a plan, but its about as realistic as Lister's from Red Dwarf: Farm in Fiji.... I want to forsake work and walk the dogs and grow marijuana while the girl pays for it all.

We're getting there I guess; she's doing a computer science degree. Another 3 years and then SHE'LL take over the mantle of breadwinner!! HEH HEH!! (SUCKER!!!) Then we can base ourselves in Holland and I can become a marijuana specialist while she troubleshoots helpdesk to pay the bills.

She's already agreed. I'll work my ass off for the next 5 or so years, then she'll take over. God, what a woman!! I don't ask for much in life surely??!!

Mmmmm, sushi...

This was taken on my first trip to Japan. I've been looking through my old pics and find that it was 3 years ago nearly to the day. A month after those planes crashed into the towers...You know, the ones where the FBI ID'd one of those hijackers because flames that melted steel somehow left his passport unscathed (Guardian link btw) to flutter down and land amidst the carnage ready to be collected. Go back to bed America, your Government is in control...

Anyway, sliiightly Off-topic, I had a really great camera at the time. An Olympus c4040z. A 4.1 megapixel camera in 2001!

3 days later some enterprising little bastard in Sengawa, (Western inner suburbs of Tokyo; in Chofu, just past Medaimae on the Keio line) spied me flashing it around and pickpocketed it out of my rucksack. NOT a good first impression of peaceful Japan. Her whose shimmering beacon of light from the heavens, the beauty of which would put Aphrodite to shame was most surprised with my warcry of "THE CRACKSMOKING MOTHERFUCKER, I'LL GUT HIM LIKE A FUCKING FISH" as I slammed my (now empty) rucksack down onto the table in Mosburger infront of mothers with children and ran out, seeking vengeance and screaming blue murder onto the packed street searching with a vengeance the thronging crowds for any bad-looking wise-ass who'd dare steal from my back. I was the only gaijin and her, frantically working out what was wrong whilst simultaneously trying to calm me down and bring me to the realisation that the camera was G-O-N-E F-O-R-E-V-E-R (but "....We'll report it to the police anyway and you never know") infront of one side of a very busy street; highly embarrased.....

I cursed the foul creature for a few weeks (it wasn't so much the camera, as more the pictures on the memory card) but learned to live with it...Especially when several months later I ballsed up enough to claim for it on my house insurance...plus a new rucksack...and coat....and a few extra memory cards....and a couple of hundred more than I paid for it!!.......;) The cheque'll be in the post soon sir!! Kerching ching!!

One love Tokyo and Japan, I've been back a few times since, and I'll never hold it against you.....Oooer!!

Sacred Cow

You mean I can't take a handgun into the building??! What can I use to threaten the checkout citizen with?

I went to New York recently and took this pic somewhere in Brooklyn. It was a probation office or suchlike; shame it was so out of alignment...I was pleasantly surprised to see that the NYC gun laws are pretty strict. Here in the UK its 5 years for possession of a handgun fullstop. (Or stateside period)

Without a licence over there I think its about the same 2-3 years, and the tears from the gangsters...boo hoo hoo. "A lonely mother looking out of a window at a son that she just can't touch... Same here, the gangsters will always be firing the bullets."

But, how now? (....Melville rubs off you know). If you're looking for an interesting website with comedy mixed with political views and conspiracy theorism in abundance check out my friends over at Sacred Cow. Theirs is a great example of how the WWW could and should be used. 20, 30 minute streaming vids of important news, opinion and dialogue that plays no-slow on my 512kb connection. A massive catalogue of free media and lots of the man Bill Hicks.

If you're interested in fine, fine, fine photography, then head over to Bastish. Kevin Cameron is a strong mind among men; he would have fared well upon The Pequod. Fluent in Japanese, having just left Tokyo he is a US citizen completing an MA in Sustainable Development in Sweden. You could also do worse than going to his sustainability blog and contributing your opinion. We should all find a way forwards....I'm still testing, one, two, three...

I'm commencing Time out of Joint to relax me away from the White Whale. PK Dick can really mess my mind, but that's what he's there for....This is when I have time for fiction....Got stuff to read for work too.

Alexandra Palace

Today me and her visited part of town we used to live in for a while. We hadn't been back for a year or so, and it was nice walking round buying second-hand books and window shopping the memories.
A short bus ride and on to Alexandra Palace for some of the best views over North London. It was built in 1873 and contained three great auditoria which could stage concerts, exhibitions and banquets. It also contained a theatre, a library, a museum and a lecture hall. Its surrounding parklands contained ornamental lakes, sports facilities and a funfair. Its slightly dilapidated now however, and has a rougher feel to it. It was in 1936 however, when John Logie-Baird and EMI-Marconi, under the auspices of the BBC moved in to conduct the first television broadcasting tests. And that folks, is where history was made. The drug of the nation, the new opiate of the masses.
Regarding the BBC, I love the website, I think that it is a great example to other media corporations as to what an interactive website should be. It aint just headlines and TV listings, there's a hell of alot else there. But then there should be. Its all paid for via the licence fee. 110 pounds per year? No thanks. Hopefully soon legislation will force them to change their money-raising tactics. Apparently there is a system of exchange called "Advertising" that could be considered. Its a fine of 1,000 pounds for getting caught watching TV without a licence! Who are the criminals?? A few hundred million pounds just from licence fee payers per year? Damn right they better provide good internet content!
Me and the Mrs. holed up in "The Phoenix" pub (part of the complex) until the rain abated and then home. Alexandra Palace has always been nearish yet farish from me, wherever I've lived in London, "Ally Pally" has been at least a 15min walk/drive/bus or cycle away. In summer picnics in the gardens, year round you see sweeping vistas over North and Central London. I called a friend whilst we were lounging on the leather sofas with a pint of guinness and he called it "the mountain" Its a high point for sure, but not the highest. Good views all round.... Post later. Still testing...

Leaving Port

Would Nantucket have looked like this? Norwegian fjords from Oslo bay.

The White Whale

First Post. As they say on Slashdot. Hey-ho, and away me hearties! Excuse thee my language, fellow travelers in cyberspace.

You see, for I approach the finale of "Moby Dick". Tashtego, Dagoo, Queequeg. Starbuck, Flask and Stubb. Fedallah, Perth, Pip, The Manxman and assorted others. Of course the inimitable Ishmael and ferociously insane Ahab! Fare ye well, and sleep the good sleep! What will truly become of thee?! Moby has already attacked one of the whaling boats. Is Fedallah really the Devil, trading the prized White Whale for one black soul of a certain Captain Ahab? I'm certain that all are lost by the end except for Ishmael.

Phew! I'll know by tonight when I'll have finished the tale. I'll be needing some easy sci-fi to follow it up and recover then.....
